What is Soulspace?

Soulspace bridges the gap between people who don’t go to church and the Christian faith.

You can use Soulspace

    • To add a ‘spiritual extra’ immediately before or after an existing outreach activity.
    • To share Jesus as part of the journey towards a new Christian community/congregation.
    • To start a new service for people whom your current worship doesn’t reach – eg a Sunday morning family brunch + Soulspace.

This ‘spiritual extra’ has a simple structure:

    • Welcome
    • Gather: a time to focus – eg light a candle, play some music and invite those present to quietly ponder, ‘Who in the group lights up your life?’
    • Listen: reflection based on a Bible reading, photo, or poem.
    • Respond: seeking the best for others.
    • Go: concluding poem/prayer.

You can choose from five themes:

    • Connecting
    • Peace
    • Joy
    • Comfort
    • Guidance

The content is all there, simple to use, very flexible, easy to adapt, and with lots of options. You can choose from:

    • alternative introductions to each section;
    • different options in each section;
    • three playlists of music (classical, contemporary, contemporary worship);
    • a range of Bible options, or a photo, or a poem (with pointers to more);
    • different types of discussion questions.

You are free to use this material or add in/replace it with your own.

Soulspace provides four stepping stones to Christian life and worship.

    • A taste of spirituality.
    • Beginnings of Christian worship.
    • Fuller Christian worship.
    • Full Christian worship.

These stepping stones include Bible pathways of Scripture verses and stories that can lead people to Christ:

‘Our Common Ground’ (eg fruits of the Spirit) —> ‘Life of Jesus’ (who showed these fruits) —> ‘Getting to Know Jesus’ (spiritual practices to start following Jesus).

People of any age and from different backgrounds can cross the stepping stones as far as they want and at their own pace.

Language and content are for people with little or no Christian background. It’s all about ‘no pressure!’, ‘Let God do God’s work’, and ‘the Holy Spirit never leaves identical finger prints’.
